Project Concept
This renovation of a heritage apartment in Zagreb’s city centre was a response to the needs of a young family whose existing layout did not provide sufficient functionality. The apartment was found partially renovated, with one bedroom and a very small study. The goal was to reorganise the floor plan to create a spacious children’s room, a functional study with two workstations, and an open-plan living area, while respecting structural constraints and the heritage character of the building.
Project Description
The kitchen was relocated to the living room to form an open-plan living space, while the large hallway was repurposed as a children’s room. The study was enlarged and organised with two workstations and additional storage, with all modifications carried out without touching the load-bearing structure.
Existing heritage elements were preserved and highlighted – high ceilings, mouldings, curved walls, and exposed brick – giving the space an authentic character. Materials such as quartz and wood complement the existing parquet and furniture, while details like mirrored kitchen fronts and a red pendant lamp above the dining table further define the space’s identity.
